Puzzle Description:
This is the little known logo of a little known brewery, that happens to make my favorite Stout in the world. Anyone recognize it?
#1: karl (keicher) on Feb 6, 2012
well new holland brewery has a stout with a raven on it, and judging by being a fan of bell's, another michigan brewery might make sense... but the logo isnt right... got to keep working on it...#2: David Bouldin (Dbouldin) on Feb 6, 2012 [SPOILER]
not a Michigan brewery on this one, but I like the logic...#3: Aldege Cholette (aldege) on Feb 7, 2012 [SPOILER]
Is that a key inside the raven,i'll say Gold Key Breweries.:)#4: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 7, 2012 [SPOILER]
yes, that is a key and it is typically yellow in color. The background of the raven (inside the outer ring) is typically a very pale green.#5: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 7, 2012 [SPOILER]
wow, i just tried to find this logo in an image search without using the name of the brewery or other words that wouldn't be known from information given and it is VERY hard to find this logo...even though it is on every bottle.#6: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 7, 2012 [SPOILER]
Hint time: British brewery
I tried an image search earlier. Found a ton of crows and ravens, but no keys.#7: Claudia (clau_bolson) on Feb 8, 2012
Did the same as Kristen... now I'm intrigued#8: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
This puzzle (and the subsequent image searching) has made me wonder what kind of bird that actually is...and, for that matter, why the key? I have written to the brewery asking for additional information.#9: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
In the meantime, I just tried a fairly straight-forward image search in Google Images without reference to the bird or the key and a bottle of my favorite popped up in the top ten results.
I tried English stout, English stout beer, British stout, British stout beer, English brewery, and British brewery. No luck, unless the crow is a tiny little emblem on a larger label, like Samuel Smith's.#10: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
there is a picture of a bottle from this brewery in the top 50 results of half of those searches ;)#11: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
...the crow might be small, but it isn't like it's surrounded by a bunch of other stuff obscuring it :)
if it helps any this logo, in black and white like it is here, is the only thing on the bottle cap.#12: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
I heard back from the brewery. The bird is indeed a raven...representing protection of the inhabitants from a Viking attack.#13: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
more on the key later...#14: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]

I found the cap! Too bad that doesn't help me with the name. :)
Nice find!#16: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 8, 2012
I don't want you to get frustrated, but I also don't want to deprive you of the thrill of the hunt. I can leave you to continue your search, provide another hint or just spill the beans?
I've already devoted enough of my time to image searches. I'm spent.#17: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
...especially with all of your royal duties weighing so heavily on your mind these days right? ;)#18: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 8, 2012 [SPOILER]
The description is a bit much, but here it is:

This morning's email from the brewery:#19: Susan Duncan (medic25733) on Feb 9, 2012 [SPOILER]
Dear David,
Thank you for your email.
The bird on our logo is a raven which represents protection of the St. Peters inhabitants from the onslaught of the Vikings and stops them from crossing the moat. The key represents the key to the gate of St. Peter's.
Best wishes,
Claire ...
Very good puzzle David - How did you find this beer in the first place?#20: David Bouldin (dbouldin) on Feb 9, 2012 [SPOILER]
When I was in grad school, some friends and I would go to a little British pub on Sunday nights for Trivia Night and they used to carry it. One of those friends introduced me to it. They have since stopped carrying it and it's much harder to find because the Tennessee limit for what constitutes "beer" under the beer license is 6.2% ABV and the Cream Stout is 6.5%.
