I'm stuck. is there any way to find out if anyone else has done this one yet?
#2: Merili (merilinnuke) on Oct 29, 2007
Almost gave up, but eventually solved it. Took a lot of guessing and undoing though.. Must be the hardest one I've solved so far. Thanks for the challenge :)

Yes Julius! Place your pointer on any part of the puzzle name/ number and a screen pops up that allows you to view all kinds of information about that puzzle. Including how many people have solved it! Pretty cool feature. ^>^

I only made it to the end thanks to "trial and error", as you said it..

Yes..it was hard, but I think I might have gone thru it easier 'cause I knew what the end result looked like

I don't think this puzzle is solvable unless you do some trial-and-error work. Too many of the pixels are determined by multi-line interactions. It is certainly not solvable by single-line logic alone.

This puzzle is one of the ones that I used as a sample puzzle in my Survey of Paint-by-Number Puzzle Solvers as an example of a larger, more difficult puzzle that still has a unique solution. Most good solving programs can handle it in times ranging from a 10th of a second to 18 minutes.

I wonder if Nancy would be willing to give permission to allow this puzzle to be freely redistributed as part of a standard test set for developers of new solving programs.

I solved it and I like it, however, his name is Rhett.

Oh, shoot! He isn't Brett Rutler? ;)
