I am thinking that if you put all the completed puzzles in this series together, you will get a picture of something. That's all I can come up with.

...while the Cowboys did not win Superbowl XX (Bears)...it's a good guess that they will win Superbowl LXX...which will occur in 2036 :)

All PipPip puzzles start with Sym and are not symmetrical. The title is followed by the objet spelled w/o vowels. So Kayla you are 1/2 right.

I'm pretty sure the "Sym" is for "symbol"

But why do the comments mention XX? That's what I can't figure out.

My first thought is that maybe the puzzle had been edited, and an earlier version mentioned XX. I haven't checked the database, but I'm sure that puzzles that have been edited say so. This puzzle doesn't say that it has been edited. So it wouldn't be that.

My next theory is that maybe some comments got deleted. (I still need to download a backup copy of the database and see which comments need restoring. That probably won't happen until after my kiddo goes back to school after the pandemic.)

My third theory is that David mentioned XX in comment #1 and then edited it out. Edited comments don't say that they are edited, so it's possible. But David's comment #1 is just hints at solving the puzzle, so commentary about XX seems like a big departure from what's there.

So, back to square one: I have no idea. Theory 2 seems the most likely.

I seem to remember this puzzle having a cryptic description, but there is no description now. My comment was obviously just playing off of Kristen's, but also obvious is that I don't show any confusion about the XX Kristen mentions. I really do feel like it had a description that popped up, but as Kristen mentioned, it's been a long time.

Looking at the comments on the other PipPip puzzles, I think they originally had different titles, and possibly were even changed more than once. Changing the title without changing the puzzle itself does not make a new version.

Deleted comments is unlikely as they would not have been deleted from the middle leaving ones that reference them afterward. Plus all the XX comments are two years before the gone times.

I'm pretty sure there was never a way to delete comments on purpose, either.

oh, and regarding Valerie's third theory (in #16). i don't think i've ever edited one of my comments. i prefer to make changes, give apologies or correct stupidity in subsequent comments so that the record stands ;)
