English: "To be rather than to seem." This is from Cicero's essay "On Friendship" ("De amicitia"). "Virtute enim ipsa non tam multi praediti esse quam videri volunt" (Few are those who wish to be endowed with virtue rather than to seem so). Here is a young man being greeted by his best friend.

Beautiful, Teresa. Esse quam videri was my High School motto. I only took one year of Latin. I think all I remember is agricolo...farm!
