The Pilgrims landed in Plimouth, now Plymouth MASSACHUSETTS. So, the symbol for the Mass Pike (as the natives call it) is the Pilgrim hat.

PS: Watch out for the speed trap near the I-84 exit.

I'm pretty sure the Pilgrims had absolutely nothing to do with the building of the Massachusetts Turnpike.

I have just come to this puzzle years after all these comments. I too thought the solution would have something to do with James Taylor. Not being American, I know very little about the Mass Turnpike, but my daughter loves James Taylor and 11 years ago named her first show horse Sweet Baby James, whom we call Jamie. Now I have an earworm.
