Given the sort of people I hung out with (mostly role-play and/or computer geeks), I was under a lot of pressure to start playing Magic back in the '90s. I resisted, though, primarily because I recognized that the only way to be even remotely competitive was to spend a ton of money. I didn't need that to eat my wallet.
