Energy Resource: Biomass. The wood burning stove is the oldest and simplest type of biomass energy system. No, the second oldest. The oldest would be a campfire.

I created this one from memory. Our extended family had a cabin in the Rocky Mountains that my grandfather and Dad and uncles all built from scratch. They installed this wood burning stove in the kitchen. The wood goes in the left side where the fire will be the hottest. The heat goes across the top of the oven in the center. The right side has less heat and is used to heat water for dishes and bathing.

Biomass is plant matter that is turned into fuel for energy or to produce electricity for power plants. Here are the most common examples:

Trees produce wood for camp fires and stoves.
Corn is fermented to produce ethanol for vehicle fuel.
Garbage dumps can produce methane for power plants.
Waste water, livestock manure, even used tires can be turned into energy.

Great job and good image. We had a huge one that was a four-burner propane stove with oven on one half and the other half was an equal size wood stove. At the back were built-in water cisterns so that as long as heat was being produced there was hot water for dishes and bathing.

Beautiful, and an easy (but long) solve. Thanks.
