This type of pavement is common on Tennessee interstate highways. It has a lovely brown color; a nice change from grey asphalt.

Another nice word of the day, Trish!

Nice word, but what is the blue and red? The broken stone?

I hate macadam. It disappears at night, so all you can see on the road is the lines. Black ice is especially treacherous as it's even harder to see. Worst driving surface ever.

Nice puzzle though. The red and blue are the cars.

Another fact learned on this site. Did not know where the term macadam came from.

Is that where they get the term "tarmac" from?

According to the interwebs, tarmac is short for tarmacadam, or tar-penetrating macadam. :)

I've always used "tarmac" as the name for the paved area that planes drive on before take-off, not as a type of pavement.

Boyfriend and I once got lost on the dirt roads of WV. We saw two girls walking and asked directions. "Well, you go two miles and you'll get to Macadam." As if it were a destination....
