sarah's obviously more hi tech than the rest of us. she probably has one of those thermometers that is just point, shoot, and read. :-) nice one, sarah!

I do have one of those - not the kind that is for people, but the infrared thermometer that you can check the temperature of air conditioning/heating output, room temperature, etc. Lily needs one; they're fun.

Most laser levels are only good for using as line projectors. The affordable ones are not really good enough to be completely level over the distances that are useful. And the ones that are come at "professional" prices.

We have one of those point&shoot thermometers at work. It won't go up high enough to read the temperature of the forge (it only goes up to 750F), but it's good for telling when something is able to be quenched without hardening it (
<200F).

Today I picked up something that wasn't glowing, but was still hot enough to burn me instantly. I was wearing welding gloves, but unfortunately it had a hole in one finger. OUCH.

We keep saying we're going to get a braille stamp that says "HOT", so that we'll know as soon as we touch it...

Ouch! That's gotta be a 3rd degree burn

good tool to have

I seem to have gotten away with a second-degree burn. It's only a little painful today, but I have four parallel depressions in my fingerprint - it was a bolt and those are the "brandings" from its threads.
