for a bit of perspective: the mayflower was 90-110 feet in length, and 25 feet wide at its beam. the good ship Paradiso (where I live) is 40 feet and with a 12.5 beam.
two people live on Paradiso. the mayflower sailed with 102 people aboard and an unknown number of crew. to compare, 25 to 30 people would live aboard Paradiso. yikers!

not normally... tho' I have to admit to being AR. it's only that I find the ships that sailed prior to power were small and packed. wall to wall with people not to mention the supplies they had to carry. it boggles my mind knowing how easy it is to sail anywhere anytime now. what cojones the early explorers must have had. what curiosity must have driven them! no amount of fame, gold, or punishment would be incentive enough for me to venture forth on the sea then.
