Interesting idea. I have a comforter purchased from Lands' End about 10 years ago that is printed with squares representing different weather conditions (snow, rain, fog, sun). It's neat to see the different 5x5 quilt pieces come up at random and make images that work. I thought this might be a scarab or something, too, but I see the snow, of course.
I'm torn between searching for quilt pieces and doing them all at once and just waiting to enjoy them when they pop up.
