Puzzle Description:

A stylized version of the United States Seal that I found on the web. Seemed like a natural paint-by-number. The fact that he is clutching only the three arrows (heads on the left, fletching on the right), and not the olive branch seems thoroughly up to date.

Up to date, but sad.

Aww, being a marine biologist, I read the clue as a seal (marine mammal)....that was feathered somehow..i was interested in seeing the outcome...then it cliked a few minutes into the puzzle....how wrong i was. :)

Um, I forget whether this is two sides of the seal, but there has been a seal for times of war and one for times of peace for a long time. It's normal, not suddenly updated.

EDIT: No, no, it's both. I am being fooled by the fiction:

There.

Now, I dunno about your one you used to make the picture.

I love snopes.com. I've quit getting many alarmist, goofy emails by sending links to snopes back to people who foward those emails on.

Ditto Bionerd (sort of). I thought of the animal too but recognized what I was solving for a short way into it.

I do the same as Arduinna. :)
