I think it needs more fiddling. I'd start by thickening the diagonal lines along the checks. Thin diagonal lines never have a unique solution.

Just as a note, I've submitted a new version of this at #23261 as part of my new project to take older unsolvable puzzles and make them solvable. I won't attach any image spoilers here, but I did attempt to solve the puzzle myself before making changes so I would know what to fix. All copyright for the portions used belongs to Clay; I only take credit for fixes and redesigns.
