Topic #1048: Bug with printing

I was drafting a puzzle (saved and unpublished) and printed it to test it the old fashioned way. I made some edits and saved, then printed again and the rendering is still the original version! Very strange

Thanks for the alert! Those are parts of the code that I never use, so I appreciate the heads-up that there is a problem there.

No problem! Found an easy work around of saving a copy which reset it to print to the newer version

Still, I need to get that fixed.

Hey Karen? Could you describe what you do to print a puzzle? There is no "print" button on a puzzle's page, but there is the "Print Puzzles" button in the left column. So I wasn't sure which way you were printing them.
Thanks!

There is actually a print button on every puzzle page. It takes you directly to a pdf of that puzzle.

My guess is that a pdf is generated when the puzzle is first created, but that the generation of updated pdfs is somehow failing. (I have not tried this out myself)

Oh! There's the print button! It's in with the other gray buttons, so I looked right past it. Goodness!!! Thanks!!

Hm. I went looking to fix this problem, but I couldn't replicate it. Then I looked up the code that prints puzzles, to make sure that it's printing the highest version number and not just randomly choosing a version. And there is indeed code there to print the version with the highest version number. So as far as I can tell, this is working correctly. But, Karen, clearly you saw something that went wrong. If you could describe how to reproduce the problem, I'll try doing that. Though your original description of what you did is pretty detailed, so I am not sure.

My best guess is that the printed puzzles in PDF format have the same file name, no matter which version, and your browser remembered a cached version of the PDF that it had already seen and printed that instead of looking to see if it had been revised.
