Nice little puzzle, Brian. Question: Is "cutting the hole" a golf specific term? Does it refer to playing the game or the cut of the grass at the hole?

They actually have a round cutter that removes a plug of sod and they use that to fill up the previous hole location.

I never really thought about it much.

Quote from the link:
"It would mess up the greens if they didn't move the hole every day. The amount of traffic near the hole leaves its mark on the grass, both in direct damage to the grass and in soil compression. The edge of the hole also gets worn with use, which can cause more putts to lip out than when it's new and sharp."

I didn't know that but then I don't know much about golf! Nice puzzle
