Puzzle Description:

Rodin's "Thinker"

#1: Jan Wolter (jan) on Feb 9, 2006 [HINT]

This puzzle took me a long time to beat into shape, hence the low ID number. The image I ended up with isn't great, but at least it's plenty hard to solve. I don't think row logic alone suffices.
#2: Mark Conger (aruba) on Feb 13, 2006
I couldn't do it with line-by-line logic. Good one!
#3: zachmate (zachmate) on Feb 25, 2007
A good puzzle and a reasonable likeness. I knew from the title what the image would be, but it didn't make it any easier.
#4: Bionerd (nieboo) on Oct 13, 2007
I did it with line by line logic. With only one dot due to border logic.

#5: Rachel R (rachel) on Jul 13, 2007
I got so stuck I had to guess.
#6: W Marik (wmarik) on Jan 8, 2008 [SPOILER]
I had to 'think' on this one.
#7: Arduinna (arduinna) on Feb 24, 2008 [HINT]
I finally had to do several rows of edge logic on the bottom right to get it to start coming together. Definitely a challenge!
#8: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Jan 30, 2009
Logic worked. Neat puzzle. I can see why it took a long time to do. Very nice.
#9: Jota (jota) on May 14, 2009
I wasn't born either when the original one was made, but this one I know.
#10: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on May 24, 2009 [SPOILER]
It totally looks like he is a fencer, with his fencing helmet on. Totally solvable by line logic, but sometimes I had to really search for one pixel to continue.
#11: Byrdie (byrdie) on Sep 22, 2009 [HINT] [SPOILER]
I sat for a long time staring at a screen with a white figure that looked much like the iliacal crest. A little bit of edge logic at the top and right and scanning back and forth for the one pixel that would reveal its self to me here and there.

It may the thinker but this puzzle was the stinker - <smile>. Really made me work to find it.

Well done, btw.

"Thinker" indeed. I found it quite challenging. Interesting image too!
#13: Cecily (TheLorax) on Dec 26, 2009
I definitely had to guess on this, but the solution was well worth the difficulty.
#14: Deana L (FFsWife) on Dec 30, 2009
One I started ages ago and got around to finishing today (night). I'm thinking that puzzles like these won't really help the insomnia situation. :)

Fantastic puzzle. I think the image is quite good. The challenge was fun. Took me awhile, but I just kept looking for that next clue. Very satisfying. :-)
#16: Jennifer Jones (geekess) on Oct 14, 2010 [SPOILER]
Nice puzzle! Hard but worth it. Interesting fact, if you haven't seen the original "Thinker" or pictures with someone standing next to it, it's actually much smaller than you would expect. And in the middle of a small garden/park so you almost miss it. Not sure why I ever expected it to be bigger...
#17: Diana W (aeris) on Feb 8, 2011 [SPOILER]
I finally finished it with logic. That was hard!
#18: Ki Bitzar (kibitzar) on Sep 22, 2016 [HINT] [SPOILER]
It's straight line and edge logic. Nice challenge! Why is it marked as requiring lookahead?
#19: Byrdie (byrdie) on Sep 22, 2016 [HINT]
Edge logic, at its core, is a form of look ahead.
#20: Susan (Susan) on Jun 9, 2017 [SPOILER]
Very well done, enjoyed the challenge even though I did guess a couple times.

Jennifer, there are also numerous castings around the world at a much larger size than the original. I remember one from childood visits to Chicago, I think at the Institute of Arts. According to this article it was originally titled "The Poet," and meant to be Dante, leaning forward to consider his work on the Circles of Hell depicted in The Divine Comedy.

Susan, thanks for the interesting info. I love it when I learn something new on webpbn.

Great job! Very enjoyable solve with a rewarding, favorite image.
