Puzzle Description:

The Union Jack

My first shot at creating a puzzle :)

After solving two US flags in 1 day, I had a burst of patriotism. Or I was feeling contrary. One of them :P

Yeah, there's a bit of a glut of US flags. However, this isn't the first union jack puzzle on the site either.

As it happens, the great majority of the world's flags would make awful puzzles, so I doubt if we'll ever have a fair representation here (at least until the world's governments set aside all the war and politics and get down to the important work of updating their graphical design to something more imaginative than three bands of color).

Good puzzle. Only one minor gripe...

The puzzle image correctly shows that the white borders on the diagonal red bands are thicker on one side than on the other, but it has the thicker white band on the wrong side for two of the four quadrants. Changing this would not only make the image more accurate, but it would make the puzzle less symmetrical, and thus slightly more interesting to solve.

Nice idea! I'm going to have to try my own country's flag...
Thanks!

I remember thinking I should check the white band thickness when I started, but I clearly forgot halfway through. It's fixed now.

I do remember seeing another Union Jack, way back in the archives. Another can't hurt, it's amazing the variety you can get even with set designs like these. Just look at all the US ones :)

Very interesting - I've seen lost of Union Jack's but I never noticed how the thicker band was oriented before. I'm not sure how much variety you could get with my country's flag, though. ;-)

Nice job and pretty interesting for a flag especially! Thanks for the design info too!

Great job on your first puzzle. The flag turned out very well. I agree with you about how one person's puzzle on the same subject will be different than another's -- makes it more fun.

Great, my first attempt at solving a coloured one.
