Puzzle Description:
DNA Double Helix and the Genome Alphabet Code. In 2003, scientists completed the Human Genome Project.

And now you have completed it as well.#2: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 13, 2010 [SPOILER]
Here is the picture I used as a model:
http://www.sciencewithmrmilstid.com/media/doubleHelix.jpg
The double helix is a structure made up of two strands of sugars and phosphates linked by pairs of the four chemical bases, abbreviated A, T, C, or G. Those bases are paired up in a very specific fashion. They click together like the teeth in a zipper. The exact A-T-C-G sequence of one person's genome won't be the same as another person's. The pairing sequences denote differences such as eye color, personality traits, or blood type.
This PBS flash link shows how the genome is sequenced:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/genome/sequencer.html#
Just think: The human genome has 3 billion pairs of bases. There are 30,000 of these genomes jammed into the 23 pairs of chromosomes inside the nucleus of every cell in your body.#3: Jane Doe (telly) on Jan 14, 2010
If the data in the human genome were printed in 10 point font in books of 1,000 pages each, it would take 200 books to hold all the data.
Here is an interesting article that explains how to read the ATCG code in DNA:

nice one.#4: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 14, 2010 [SPOILER]
I think Adam (monkeyboy) did a similar one a year ago or something like that. but the right half was different. Now that I understand color-logic better, I found this one to be an easier, enjoyable solve.
Thanks, Telly, I don't remember doing one like this before, and a search for "helix" did not come up with any results, so I was hoping it would be unique.#5: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jan 14, 2010 [SPOILER]
This image is more accurate than the picture I linked as a model. In real life, the A base can only pair with T and C can only pair with G.
Telly, you beat me to it. LOL#6: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 14, 2010
Nice one, T.
Yes, this puzzle reminds me of puzzle #2958.
Thanks, Adam. I looked and looked and couldn't find it. Now I can go solve yours. I probably didn't solve it before because of the size. But since it's yours, I won't mind scrolling while I work on it. :-)#7: Adam Nielson (monkeyboy) on Jan 14, 2010
I hate solving those kinds of puzzles myself, (due to the scrolling) but they are fun to make. Remember, that was one of my first puzzles, back when I used more colors that just black and white.#8: Jota (jota) on Jan 14, 2010
There needs to be a better way to search through the forums and puzzle topics, because things like this happen. I have often wanted to look for certain topics, etc, and have no luck.
Thanks for your entry!#9: Stephanie Zahnzinger (stz1229) on Jan 15, 2010
Terrific puzzle. I found it very enjoyable, and you did a great job with the colors.#10: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Jan 15, 2010 [HINT] [SPOILER]
no doubt, this is one of the milestones of the century.#11: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 15, 2010 [SPOILER]
the helix.
sorry for the silly joke, Teresa!
Well done!
Thanks, Stephanie and Conzick.#12: Sallie Wilbur (sarriemom) on Jan 15, 2010
If anyone has the time, you might enjoy listening to Dr. Collins, the director of the project:

Very well rendered and a fun puzzle to solve!#13: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 15, 2010
Thanks, Sallie.#14: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Jan 16, 2010
Wonderful puzzle. Images are very vivid and the use of color is great.#15: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 16, 2010
Thanks, BlackCat.#16: deb baltenberger (mrsdrb) on Jan 16, 2010
Best puzzle EVER!#17: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 16, 2010
Thanks, Deb.#18: Liz P (Lizteach) on Jan 18, 2010 [HINT] [SPOILER]
Very attractive puzzle. Normally, lots of colors in small numbers together drive me nuts, but this wasn't so bad because I was aware of the subject matter! Nice rendering of the double-helix.#19: JoDeen Mozena (ozymoe) on Jan 18, 2010 [SPOILER]
I knew it was going to be genetic coding right away...but I'm a finisher. I think DNA or RDNA for that matter is boring, albeit beautiful in more than one sense. I just hate finishing a puzzle that I know is going to be coding. Just me. Sigh.#20: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 18, 2010
Still, the puzzle was a good one if you don't mind the visual as a reward when you already know pretty much what it looks like. Again...just
my take.
Thank you, Liz.#21: Linda Martin (ilovethispuzzle123) on Jun 17, 2011
Sorry, JoDeen; I do appreciate the feedback.
excellent double helix. really fun to solve.#22: Julio Parra (Julio Parra) on Nov 30, 2020
Excelente puzzle que refleja muy bien lo que es el cuerpo humano: millones de reacciones quÃmicas por minuto, dirigidas por la batuta genética.#23: Teresa K (fasstar) on Dec 5, 2020
A mà me encanta la biologÃa.
Gracias, Julio. Realmente es asombroso, ¿no?#24: Julio Parra (Julio Parra) on Dec 15, 2020
Es pura ciencia. Protones, neutrones y electrones debidamente organizados.
