I remember the trick was to wipe out the columns at either end of the rows of bugs because the rows would drop each time they made it to the edge of the screen. If you wiped out the ends it took them longer to get from side to side.
Yeah, I played a game or two of this as well, as much at home as at the pizza parlor.
