Puzzle Description:

A tesselation pattern of fish. Inspired by M.C. Escher.

By far, one of the best if not THE best "pattern" puzzles on here. I LOVE Escher, and anything "escher-esque." I hope you win this week. No offense to the other participants, ok?

Thanks. It took a while to design, but I think it would be easier in the future.

Great pattern!!! I love the WC but lately there have been so many entries that I get behind in my other puzzles. I decided to not do the WCs this week and only do the winners because i did not want to do patterns which are not normally fun to do although sometimes the end is cool. I did this because he had a good quality rating. It was fun to do and a good result. I am apparently going to have to get a better attitude about patterns! Thanks!

Well I personally like this pattern. Surprise Surprise!

I agree with the others. You really proved us wrong, patterns can be fun! This one was not only fun to solve, but the image was rewarding too.

The white fish gave the puzzle the difficulty needed not to be too easy or boring. The pattern wasn't too easy either - when it is, you remember the pattern and don't look at the numbers anymore, which again makes the puzzle less fun to solve.

I rarely enjoy patterns, and I usually prefer puzzles with only 2 colors, but this one was so much fun. :-D

Thank you!

Thanks for a wonderful entry!

This puzzle deserves a 5-star rating. My own WC puzzle seems like small potatoes now! :) Using an Escher inspiration was a great idea! In fact, these tessellations seem worthy of a series of puzzles.

I thought of Escher as soon as the pattern started to emerge...Very well done!!!!
#13: Joanna Hinks (jchinks) on Feb 17, 2009 [SPOILER]
I've actually never made a tesselation before. It's not as hard as it looks. I may try it again.

Thank you for doing an Escher puzzle. I have often wondered about doing one for webpbn, but since I don't really like to make or solve multi-color puzzles, I never did one. I'm glad you did so I could see how it worked out.

Thank you for making it this size, so we can enlarge it to distinguish the number colors.

Thank you for using white to make it so interesting and just the right amount of challenge.

Well done!

I don't like patterns because they tend to be predictable and boring. This is no exception although it is colorful and pretty.

Joanna: you are ignoring my 3 question, please go to forum 122
#17: Teresa K (fasstar) on Feb 27, 2009
Yes, Joanna, you MUST do the interview. It's the most fun thing about winning! Here is the link:

I've said time and again that I don't appreciate patterns . . . and then this one comes along. Great fun, interesting to solve and a rewarding image.

Thanks! The WC has served its purpose.

This is great, I really enjoyed it. It was complex and varied and interesting enough that I didn't feel like I was solving a predictable pattern.

I'm a year and a half late, but I loved this puzzle, too. I like color puzzles and this one is very bright and cheery.
