Puzzle Description:

Our local transit union went on strike before Christmas, and they still haven't managed to come to any sort of agreement with the city. That means no busses, no train. My family is among the lucky ones, since we're healthy, close to a supermarket, and the kids ride a school bus, not a city bus. But my husband still has to walk an hour just to get to his job downtown each day. And it's cold outside!

How frustrating! I hope they settle soon!

Rea - the rules don't say I have to actually name my city. Just provide a symbol. (Hint - I'm Canadian.)

;-)

Hey! Our hockey team actually won the last game they played. Yeah, they almost gave it away in the second period, but they still won.

We're not the worst! (That's actually what I was chanting...)

:-p

Love the puzzle- sorry about the circumstance. Thanks for your work, and good luck with the contest.

Nice image-love the depth. Since you are Canadian it must be cold!
#10: Meg Tayler (rebelcat) on Jan 22, 2009
It's definitely been cold! However, tomorrow the temperature is supposed to go up to a balmy -1 C (30 F), which is lucky for us as I've got to take my son to the optometrist. It's going to be about an hour's walk, I think. Hopefully the hike will drive home the point that he should be more careful with his glasses. ;-)

This Sunday, it's supposed to go back down to -30 C (-22 F).

Wonderful puzzle, Meg. I'm sorry about the strike. I hope it doesn't last too long, and I hope that your son's new glasses last a long time.

Anything below freezing is too cold for me. I used to live in Wisconsin and I had to walk a mile every day each way to go to work all the time. Now you know why I love living in Tucson, where it gets below freezing only a few days each winter.

Was it uphill, in the snow, both ways? :-)
#13: Teresa K (fasstar) on Jan 25, 2009
But of course! lol

Yes, we have a bus system again! :-) We're all very appreciative of it.
#18: Synthia McBride (synthia) on Feb 17, 2014 [SPOILER]
Very nice picture. I hope there have been no new bus strikes in the intervening 5 years, especially in the winter we are having this year.
#19: Velma Warren (Shiro) on Jan 11, 2020
The image is really great and the story is sad. Hope it got resolved with little more time.

Muy bonita imagen, y una historia increíble que pueda suceder en un país occidental.
