Every cryptic clue is made up of two parts; a definition, and a literal description of the answer using wordplay. They can be in either order (though not intertwined) and there is no separation between them.

There are exactly four more pixels to be placed in columns 3-6. Three of those must go in rows 7, 9, and 10. Therefore the last pixel must be in row 8, where it must extend the 5 clue by one. So r8c6 must be black and r8c5 must be white.
