You don't need an adverb in a Tom Swifty when the verb handles the double meaning.

The adverb is needed when the verb is "said" (which is most of them, as these are the easiest to create)

I've always seen seen them called Tom Swift. But my memory must be faulty, because the interwebs agree that it's Swifty (and not Swiftly, as I interpreted the title). If I weren't still at work, I would say it's time for bed. :)
