Having trouble seeing it.

It shows the upper half of the word "class" in block letters.

John was a little closer. I was going for "top of the class".

I had initially thought 'half a glass'

But were you optimistic, or pessimistic?

That's valid. I thought of it, but it would have made the puzzle too large.

i'm with besmirched, before i read the comments i was wondering whether you were a "glass half empty" or "glass half full" puzzle-maker :)

I guess the entire bottom half of the class dropped out?
