Not quite as much flashing text, scrolling text, hideous color choices, or animated-GIF-flames as on user pages on GeoCities, though.
I started out when using DOS wasn't optional. And through the late '90s, playing a game meant dropping out of Windows to DOS. I think MYST was my first (decent) in-Windows game.
I loved the MYST games but I have to admit that I bought the help books at the same time.
