Puzzle Description:

A streamliner locomotive. (Mercury was a Roman god known for his speed.)

There was one service of the New York Central Railroad that was operated between midwestern cities and called "The Mercury".

Although the concept has been used in diesel engines, the most iconic were the last-ditch effort of the steam locos to stay competitive.
