Puzzle Description:

What common(ish) phrase does this represent?

#1: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 20, 2018

All I can think of is the one about the moon being made of green cheese.
#2: Gary Webster (glwebste) on Nov 21, 2018
Me, too. Hmm.
#3: Belita (belita) on Nov 21, 2018 [SPOILER]
Dark side of the moon? Probably not, but that's all I can think of.
#4: John Macdonald (perlwolf) on Nov 21, 2018
Could this be a mo(o)ndegreen?
#5: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Nov 21, 2018 [SPOILER]
I knew this one wasn't obvious, and I thought I'd have to give clues, but Belita got it!

The dark side of the moon (aside from being a Pink Floyd album) is the name given to the side of the moon we can't see from Earth, and thus is used to describe things mysterious or unknown.

Pedants will rail that the far side of the moon is not always dark. It is light when the near side is dark (the new moon). However, the "dark" in the phrase does not refer to the lack of light, but to the lack of knowledge.

It could also be a stylized slice of moon pie!
#7: Belita (belita) on Nov 22, 2018
I'm surprised. I was just guessing something so that when I check answers to my posts the conversation would come up and I would find out the real phrase.
#8: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Nov 24, 2018 [SPOILER]
The "dark" side of the moon looks really weird, because it doesn't have any of the shapes we're used to seeing. Ironically, it *does* resemble the Death Star, of "that's no moon" fame. https://www.timeanddate.com/astronomy/moon/far-side.html
#9: Ailsa Hebert (bazette3) on Nov 24, 2018
I'm dying to find out what it means!!
#10: Teresa K (fasstar) on Nov 24, 2018
Well, that was fun! Kristen, I kind of liked your answer because of the "slice" in the middle.
#11: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Nov 24, 2018
Alisa, see numbers 3 and 5
#12: Brian Bellis (mootpoint) on Nov 25, 2018 [SPOILER]
At any given moment (except lunar eclipses) half the moon is in darkness. As the moon makes its tidal-locked orbit around the earth each month, the half that is in darkness continually changes. When we look up at any of the partial phases of the moon we are appreciating some of the dark side of the moon.

I like a thin waxing crescent moon where the dark side is bathed in earth shine (twice reflected sunlight) that allows us to see the dark side of the moon.

This looks to me like a mint flavored moon dipped in chocolate.
#13: Ailsa Hebert (bazette3) on Nov 25, 2018
Hi Norma,,,,,3 and 5 have been suppressed.
#14: John Macdonald (perlwolf) on Nov 26, 2018 [SPOILER]
In retrospect, it should have been obvious - the dark side of the moon is made of green cheese.
#15: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Nov 26, 2018
Alisa - They're suppressed only if you haven't solved the puzzle yet. So you have two options:

1. solve the puzzle
or
2. click on the _Spoilers_ link just above the *Your Comments:* box at the bottom of the page
#16: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Nov 26, 2018 [SPOILER]
Brian - in which case, it must be dark chocolate.
#17: Ailsa Hebert (bazette3) on Nov 26, 2018
Thanks for the help. I learned something today...lol...
#18: merkey (merkey88) on Nov 27, 2018 [SPOILER]
M O O N that spells solved
#19: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Nov 27, 2018 [SPOILER]
M O O N, that spells tidal-locked orbit!
