I'm the player on the left. Always have been hopeless at computer games. Thanks for reminding me, Joe.

I just recently did puzzle #6799. Jan's comment (#7) wasn't totally accurate. This puzzle isn't that crappy :D

Never had the pleasure of playing it.

I do remember Pong, but the puzzle title had me hoping for Gnip Gnop, the fast action plastic game from the 70's (i might be old)

Me too, Tea ... I'm sure you've noticed that "Gnip Gnop" (ping pong backwards) is EXACTLY the sound of a ping pong game?

A retro title for a retro game!

This is the reverse of Pong. Pong was white on black, which would have been an even simpler solve.

Pong was my first introduction to home video games (but not in my home). A geeky side-fact is that Pong was not digital - the circuitry was analog.

My friend had the Pong that came right after Pong, maybe called Super Pong or the like. It had 4 Pong variations, like soccer and hockey, and 4 players could play tennis IIRC.

Sounds familiar. We had one with a choice of wide/narrow paddles, fast/slow ball speed, and straighter/oblique bounce angles. My brother and I would play where we each got to control one of these extra controls. Making the ball go slow when it was coming at you and then fast when it was going toward your oppenent was the most useful control, but turning your opponents paddle from wide to narrow just as he was about to hit the ball was also a serious hazard.

We had some kind of cheap knockoff pong game. It was a hand-me-down from the neighbors. It was analog, and ornery, but we still liked it.
