Puzzle Description:

Lad and I maltreated a thief -- See comment 1

The description is a clue to the subject using cryptic crossword clue rules.

Every cryptic clue is made up of two parts; a definition, and a literal description of the answer using wordplay. They can be in either order (though not intertwined) and there is no separation between them.

Here is a page describing some of the techniques:

Thanks Joe. Beautiful image. If you are going to do a series, I guess that's one down, a thousand to go.

"Lad and I" is an anagram of Aladdin. I'm not sure how the rest fits in, but Agrabah was the name of the city, in the Disney movie.

"Maltreated" is a classic cryptic clue that the words before it are an anagram. The rest is a hint of what the anagram should be.

Yes, the answer is Aladdin:
It is an anagram clue

Lad and I maltreated = anagram of "ladandi"
a thief = definition

The picture is the sultan's palace from Disney's Aladdin.

Jeez, my brain is not aligning with yours on these at all. The image reminded me of the Taj Mahal, so I was thinking of that style of architecture. Then "boy", "we", "stole", "stealer" ... Didn't know the "maltreated" clue.

At least I recognized the same architecture!

I was thinking to make a clue about the Taj Mahal as well, but when I looked it up it has fairly normal domes. Onion domes are mostly confined to Russia, and ones as exaggerated as this to Disney.

To make it more interesting, I see you're dropping the number of letters, which are normally in cryptics.
#9: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on May 5, 2018
Yay, I accidentally got the correct answer!

Rofl #9! Kristen, you always crack me up.

I must confess, cryptics are not my kind of puzzle. I haven't gotten a single one. But I am enjoying reading the comments to see what it is anyway. This one I at least comprehend (the anagram sort of thing), but some of them... I've read the explanations and I still don't get it. C'est la vie. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. It's nice to see everyone else enjoying this series.

Gary, I'm vacillating on that, but I figured that you're getting the picture as an additional clue.

Aurelian, leave a comment on the ones you don't get and I'll try to make my explanation clearer.
