Puzzle Description:
Socrates
#1: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Feb 12, 2018 [SPOILER]
This was (and also is) my 210th puzzle. Published in April of 2015, shortly after Jan Wolter passed away, it was the puzzle where I surpassed the number of Jan's puzzles on the site. So I decided to make a tribute to him.#2: CB Paul (cbpaul) on Feb 12, 2018
The thing that impressed me the most about Jan was his thoughtfulness. He looked at both sides of everything and made deliberate decisions. On the original puzzle, I linked to an essay on his site http://greatgreenroom.org/ but it is now down. So the best I can do is give a quote of Socrates that exemplifies Jan:
"I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think."
This is a challenging and rewarding puzzle. Thank you.#3: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Feb 13, 2018
I had forgotten the subject matter. I kept trying to make it a mother holding her baby, but that baby kept getting uglier and uglier. :)#4: Aurelian Ginkgo (AurelianGinkgo) on Feb 13, 2018
Lol @ #3!#5: Belita (belita) on Feb 15, 2018
When a lot of puzzles disappeared from this site, the ones I really regret losing are all the ones we made after Jan's passing to remember and honor him.#6: BlackCat (BlackCat) on Feb 19, 2018
What is it? I quit because I found it very tedious and it didn't appear to becoming anything I could recognized.#7: Susan Duncan (medic25733) on Feb 25, 2018
I enjoyed doing this puzzle again because it was a fitting tribute. Thanks#8: derby (Derby) on Feb 27, 2018
I liked this puzzle and found it quite difficult. Thanks Joe and congrats on producing so many fine puzzles.#9: Jane Butcher (jane-o) on Oct 24, 2018
I thought it was going to be a blue blob riding a horse. It is actually a really nice looking horse. I loved the tribute. Jan gave us many continuing hours of puzzling and his legacy lives on.#10: Kathy Roth (clyde) on Dec 26, 2018
Great puzzle and commentary.#11: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Dec 26, 2018
Thanks, everyone.
Hey, https://greatgreenroom.org/ is back up! I still can't remember which essay I linked to. One I particularly enjoyed though, is his essay on knowledge and faith: https://greatgreenroom.org/item_16.html
