Yes, Vodka Phase it is! The normal, healthy mature drinker is actually drinking a non-alcoholic drink, like a cola. If the mature drinker is too attached to his/her alcoholic beverage, then they may be in the "whiskey, double, straight up" phase. :-)

I withhold any judgment of my dear friends here, just sharing some statistics.

Used to be that of folks age 60+, only half of the guys were still drinkers and only one-third of the women were drinkers. But I guess a new report shows that drinking among my age group has increased a bit in the past few years. Now it's 60% of men and almost half of women.

I'm in the half that don't drink any more. I've seen it hurt too many people and killed more than a few of good people in my life. Fortunately, my family is not affected. They are all "one is enough" kind of people.

After starring at this cool imagery, Vodka Phase seemed like the most plausible. I've never heard of the term before nor the statistics, but it makes sense.

Tammie and I are also non-judgemental teetotalers for similar reasons to yours, Teresa (though, my dad was an alcoholic).

I also think it should be noted that the principle word in Norma's anagram is DEAR, whereas in mine it's VODKA.

For a while I belonged to the "Friday Club" where I worked and would join several employees and hoist a few. But after a while that got old. Last year I had the grand sum of two alcoholic (light on the alcohol) drinks. I shared a glass of eggnog with my family for toasts on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I'm kind of funny about alcohol. One would think I absolutely could not be described as a "cheap date", as the saying goes, because the more refined, the more a like it. I discovered this when I tried a sip of rum and then a sip of gin. The gin was very cleansing, and the rum tasted like sparklers forcing themselves down my throat. But I use the term "like" in a completely relative sense. I cannot develop a taste for any of that stuff. I hate it all. It's just as well. I'm happy that this means I run absolutely no risk of ever getting drunk! ^-^
