Puzzle Description:

Fern is New Zealands national plant

I think ferns are beautiful and I hear New Zealand is beautiful too. Thanks for the education and the puzzle.

no guessing required - who checks these things!!!!!!!!

I do, which can be a problem, since I'm not world's greatest solver and don't have time anymore to do all the puzzles on the site. This is one of the aspects of the site design that most needs changing.

Another thing that I'd like would be an ability to post snapshots of partially solved puzzles in the forum so that I could say, "Oh yeah, you think this is solvable? What do you do from here?"

This is a fairly small puzzle with a unique solution. Usually such things turn out to be logically solvable, one way or another, but I don't see it.

I didn't guess either

I concur that this is logically solvable. I would assume most people would get stuck at a particular point by following line logic. If you focus on columns 7 and 8 and look at row 8, you have to fill in one of those squares. If either of them gets filled in (and one of them does), then R2C7, R2C8, R9C7, and R9C8 will all be blank.

Found to be logically solvable by jan.

I'm sold. That's an example of what the "Advanced Puzzle Solving" page calls "Two-Way Logic". Cool.

Oh, to clarify a minor point, response #5 is a "hint" not a "spoiler". Hints give information on how to solve the puzzle, "spoilers" give clues about what the puzzle image is going to be. I'm not sure how important these comment tags are, since I think relatively few people look at comments for puzzles they haven't solve unless they are looking for hints, but I've reclassified several of your comments and thought some clarification might be needed.

Thanks for the clarification. Most of my replies will probably be hints then as I am most likely to comment on the logic of a puzzle than it's outcome. :)

Nicely drawn puzzle. I, too, saved it for a bit and then came back to it. I used some of the logic Gator describes but not in the area he mentioned. I used it at the upper left and when I did the balance of the puzzle fell into place.
