Puzzle Description:

THE DOCTOR IS [IN]

#1: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Apr 7, 2013 [HINT]

After initial line logic,

Edge logic on the leftmost 2 in r23 makes c2-4 dots. Then LL.

Two-way logic on the 7 in c3: [the pinned 7 must continue either up or down]
-If it continues up (into r15) then r15c4 must be black.
-If it continues down (into r21) then r21c4 must be white - that forces r15c4 black due to the 7 in that column.
Either way r15c4 must be black. Then more LL

Another two-way-ish: Note the 7s in c3&4. There are 6 pixels of each placed. In the row below (r21) there is only a 1 left. Therefore one of the two sevens MUST go up into r14 (into r14c3 OR 4) Since there is only one 1 left in that row, the rest of the row other than those two should be dotted. Then LL

Then edge logic on the 2 in c19. It cannot be in r12-13 because of the 1 in c18. Dot those. Then LL to finish.

Rechecking this for my seal of approval. The puzzle comes through ok, but I caught Kristen.

"Boy, was I wrong!" - yup. Jefferson's on the nickel. ;-)

Once I figured what the picture was, I had to say "good grief! " But of course I said it with a smile. Well done.

Had to guess a couple of times, but since I had a pretty good idea of who the image is, the guesses worked well.

Lovely puzzle, and I didn't have to guess. The trickiest part I had was which of R14C3/4 was a black, and which of R21C3/4 was a black. Because I knew the puzzle was solvable, that was information, and the only that those two were not ambiguous, i.e., multiple solutions, was if R13C4 was black. It was the first time I have used that type of logic in PBN. Is it a normal technique?
Again, fun puzzle.

I did wind up guessing several times.

Excellent puzzle. I did have to look ahead a couple times. I agree with comment 17. It is nice to employ new types of logic for these difficult puzzles. I am surprised I hadn’t seen this puzzle earlier as I thought I had done most of the difficult ones, but I am pleased to do it. Thank you
