Puzzle Description:

Hark Word (yo!)

#1: Joe (infrapinklizzard) on Mar 30, 2013 [SPOILER]

Forkerism - a nonce word that describes a phrase where the end sounds have been transposed.

(As opposed to a Spoonerism where the initial sounds have been transposed.)

Not often used, as "Spoonerism" is often used to cover any transposition.

These are hard work. Spoonerisms trip off the tongue. The only trouble is finding a spoonerism that makes sense in its transposed form.

Exchanging the endings takes more conscious thought. And they still have to make sense...

Edge and color logic to finish this one.

After initial LL
Edge logic on the red 4 in c20 rules out the bottom two pixels. (If it went there, it would conflict in c17.) Then color logic will get you all but 3 pixels of the red.

Edge logic on the 6 in r1 vs the 5 in r2 rules out c1-8 and c20. Deep edge logic on that 6 rules out c9. (If the 6 was in c9-14, then there'd be two blocks in r4 where there's only one clue.) Then some LL.

Edge logic on the 5 in c17. If it reaches below r13, then it will create a conflict in c14. So c17r14-15 must be dotted.

Then LL to finish.

I guess I'm a shallow person. I had to use your hints to get through this one. "Deep edge logic" to me is more like trial and error. And what does the title mean?

I solved this. I don't distinguish between what logic or guessing I use. But I still don't understand the picture. What is supposed to indicated "hark word"?

Is a "kniferism" a pun that really sticks it to you?

The picture is a close-up of "yo!" tilted to the left - a word that you can use to enjoin someone to hearken. "Hark word" is a forkerism of "hard work".

Joel - Deep edge logic is the same as regular edge logic - just farther away than the next line.

The clues in c9-14 are 4|3|3|4. If all those pixels in r1 were black, then the clues in the center would end in r3, making those columns dotted in r4. However, c9 & 14 would be black in r4. That means there would have to be a minimum of two clues in r4 to fit. Since there's only one, we know that the 6 in r1 cannot cover all those pixels.

Craig - For a kniferism see my puzzle "Kniferism" http://webpbn.com/index.cgi?id=21425

How about: Yard Work, Ho!

I think you have the whole set of cutlery in that one, Kristen!
