fun solve. jota, took me a second to see it too...little red fleas around hair follicles. it's a very zoomed in view...skin is the horizon.

bugaboo - It's the 4 ascending notes you play on a uke but, beyond that, I've
never known the derivation, since M D H F are not all keys.

Robert you are right and I believe I got that from Bugs Bunny also.

Jota, I can't find a clip, but I can remember Bugs tuning a ukulele and singing "my dog has fleas." Here, poster Peanut (8th post) corroborates my story: http://www.fleamarketmusic.com/bulletin/bulletin-nonpop.asp?popup=true&BulletinID=19217

Thanks, Kristen.
#12: Byrdie (byrdie) on Feb 8, 2011 [SPOILER]
I'm reasonably certain the phrase is "All" rather than "My" but I can't remember what what is correct instead of "have."

The standard tuning for soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles is C-tuning, g'c'e'a'. The g string is tuned an octave higher than might be expected. This is known as reentrant tuning. This standard tuning is often sung to the mnemonic "My Dog Has Fleas." Some prefer "Low G" tuning, with the G in sequence an octave lower. The baritone is usually tuned to d g b e' (low to high).

I never knew it was for tuning anything. When I was a kid, we had cats, and my mom would sing it as, "Meow, meow, my cat has fleas" for randomness, I guess. I had to Google it, and here's a video of a guy using it to tune his uke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QATHiOS_Efc
