Topic #114: Weekly challenge winner
By Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty)

#1: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 1, 2008

So we are going to post winner here until Jan find time to do an honor roll page.

After a brief discussion Adam and I came up with a winner. We also decide that we're going to give point for the 3 best puzzle each week just for the fun of having a ranking and a small competition between ourself at webpbn.com.

So first place get the winner mention and 10 pts
second place get the runner up mention and 5 pts
third place get honorable entry mention and 3 pts

Stay tune the three first winning puzzle are going to be annonce soon

Sylvain

#3: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 1, 2008
Wow, thanks. I'm honored. uh hem, I'd like to thank my parents, my husband for standing by me through all the struggles with the production of such a piece of "art", my son, my siblings, my stylist, my mail carrier, my school teachers, my dog walker (I have a turtle), my aerobics instructor, my .... J/K. :D
#4: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 1, 2008
LOL
Have you been practicing?
#5: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 1, 2008
All my life...lol
#6: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 1, 2008
I have always wanted to win an Oscar. Too bad I really can't act. Or an Emmy, but I really can't sing. Oh well. lol :D
#7: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 1, 2008
you forgot God and no good speech can go without God even if your not a religious person lol
#8: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 1, 2008
So true, and I am religious. Though my speech was a farce and I would hate to lump God into a joke. I am always so thankful to Him for Everything! After all, He's the one who allows me to have anything. :)
#9: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Sep 1, 2008
Congrats Telly "YAY" and for all the runners up :)

#10: Gypso (Gypso) on Sep 1, 2008
Congratulations Telly, Tonia and Monkeylover!
Thanks to everyone who posted.

And thanks to Adam and Sylvain for judging.
Last but not least, thank you Sylvain for coming up with this idea. :-D
#11: Kuuipo (monkeylover) on Sep 1, 2008
I am Honored to be Honorable ;]
CONGRATULARIONS TELLY (I knew your puzzle was a winner)
#12: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 2, 2008
Thanks. I'm glad your puzzle also won, monkeylover. It was great! :)
#13: Jan Wolter (jan) on Sep 2, 2008
See the new "Honors" link on the menu.

I took the liberty of restating the rules on that page. If I did not do so accurately, or if they have changed, please let me know.

At the moment, the page can only be updated by me. Likely at some point I'll do something fancier that the contest administrators can update themselves.
#14: Jan Wolter (jan) on Sep 2, 2008
My congratulations to the winners of the first round, and my thanks to Sylvain and Adam for creating and running this contest.
#15: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 2, 2008
Where is this "honors" link? I couldn't find it anywhere.
Under forum? News? I looked in all those areas.
#16: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Sep 2, 2008
it's towards the bottom on the left..between books & logout
#17: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 2, 2008
Jan thank you for the honor page its perfect

Nancy Snyder (naneki) as volonteer herself as the third judge so if you can only add her name in the description so she'll be reconise for her contribution

thanks again

PS: hope to see a WC puzzle under your name soon...
#18: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 2, 2008
Jan on the honor page can we compile the point for the user to so it can be easy to see who as the most points week after week

thanks again
#19: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 2, 2008
I don't have any such link.
Nancy, no offense to you as a judge (since I am sure you will do fine) but I would MUCH RATHER be judging your puzzles! You are awesome! I know what you are thinking... you are being noble, because you know you might win every contest, right??? :-)
#20: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 2, 2008
I agree with Adam on #19 Nancy, you'd probably with every contest. But I'd love to see your work!

Jan, I also don't have a link in between books and logout. How can I get to that page?
#21: Jan Wolter (jan) on Sep 2, 2008
Leave the site and come back. Your browser's reload button might also work. When you navigate around the site, the menu doesn't usually reload, so changes in the menu may not appear instantly.

I suppose we can do something to track points. Doesn't need to happen just yet though.
#22: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 2, 2008
no for a couple of week its gonna be easy just down the road if many user get point each week it can easily become tricky

thanks again
#23: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 2, 2008
It worked like a charm, Jan. Thanks!
#24: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Sep 2, 2008
LOL Adam & Telly

well lets see . . . .
you have 2 men judging the puzzle! it needs a womans touch :)
#25: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 2, 2008
Ok. Knock yourself out. Are you available Monday nights to email/chat/discuss them?
#26: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 2, 2008
On that note Adam create yourself a bogus gmail account so we can use G-talk to have a three way conversation live instead of going back and fort with the mail
#27: Jane Doe (telly) on Sep 2, 2008
I was thinking that too Nancy. We do need a woman on the judging panel.
#28: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Sep 2, 2008
I'm always available :)
& yes get yourself a g-mail acct. it makes discussions much better
#29: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 2, 2008
I already did
#30: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Sep 2, 2008
what time do you two get together on Monday night?
Adam..I sent you a googletalk invite
#31: Adam Nielson (monkey) on Sep 2, 2008

Sorry
Around 7 or 8 pm CA time
#32: Nancy Snyder (naneki) on Sep 2, 2008

#33: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Sep 2, 2008

I don't enter to win or get a place, I love the fact that someone else is giving me an idea of what to create, that is where I get my joy from, creating, I love it!
Congrats to Telly too, your puzzle was excellent, fantastic image, and Jan, I loved your puzzle, mad fun to solve.

Sorry to be late updating the "Honors" page.

At some point, I need to figure some way to (1) let the judges update the page themselves, and (2) automate the rank listing. It's always been one of my goals for this site to make sure that it doesn't need constant baby-sitting from me, but can run unattended for a bit when it needs too, so manually updating the Honors page every week is something I definitely want to get away from, but I've got too many other projects going right now to address this. Plus doing it manually for a while will let some of the requirements come clear, like the need to be able to accommodate ties.

Congrats to the winners, again.
#70: Jane Doe (telly) on Oct 9, 2008
We appreciate all of your work on this site Jan! Thanks for making it so great for us.

#80: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Oct 19, 2008
we are going to do thing a little diffrent now since I can edit the honor page myself.

Topic 112 going to serve as a general topic on WC. If you have comment to post or question to the judges or anything on the general working of the challenge its the place to post

I'll still going to annoce the new theme here since I can explain the name of the theme easily in the post rather than just the tilte in the honor page.

For comment and congratulation on the winning puzzle we are going to continue using topic 114. So all winner can post comment or be congratulate there. I WON'T POST winner on topic 114 but only in the honor page ( same think for the ranking)

The 3 questions interview stay the same in topic 122

thank you

To all 15 participants: thanks! you made this challenge very difficult for us, the quality and quantity of puzzles was almost overwhelming, the fun to solve was immense, you all should feel very proud.
Our only regret. no one made a wish, so we were not able to grant them ...

#99: Teresa K (fasstar) on Dec 14, 2008
Jota, you got what you wished for - all those entries you personally requested. Wow - what an initiation for your first judging session. Thank you to each of the judges for your time and commitment.

I got what I wished for - to be one of the winners - yeah!!

And if I remember correctly, you already granted us peace and health. Thank you for both - so much nicer than anything else we could wish for.

Congratulation to all 3 winners

k chouinard if you can go to topic 122 for Jota's 3q interview

thanks to all user who post in the WC from week one to now. Its amazing to see people getting in the game each week and new user trying to get they puzzle in the top 3. Each week you all give us plenty of new interesting puzzle to solve and this web site getting bigger and bigger all the time because of you all.

I just hope we can continue this weekly challenge for at least another 25 week. I would like to take a little bit more space and time and thank the many people that help me make this all possible.

Fisrt Jan who like the idea from the get go and help with the conception of the honor page, and continue to help when somw puzzle are mark with ? at the last minute and we are not sure if we should or not accept it.

Second to all the judges who can along since the start of this game. At first it was me and Adam, them Nancy joint us. Adam decide to jump out and Jota did an amazing job replacing him. Now Nancy have take a little break from judging and Deana jump in the boat and help me out. It not always easy and you all did it with enormous generosity and for that I'm tanking you all

I like to thank Jota a second time since she been replacing me for the 3Q interview of topic 122 since a couple of week now. I was drain out of question but I always tought it was interresting to get to know each other a little more and having the best puzzle creator of the week revealing a little of himself each week was something that was very found to me and now Jota been doing it ( way better than me) and it so much fun to read every week.

Last thank you goes to all the user who enter at least once in this sweet little game. Without you no WC can be done.

ok I'll shut up now, thank you again every one

#164: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Jul 26, 2010
Sorry, Judges. I never wanted to criticize any of your decisions. but not mentioning any of Teresa great puzzles is a little shame...
#165: Sylvain "WCPman" (qwerty) on Jul 26, 2010
I agree with you here Kai, but we know how awsome Teresa puzzle are or can be. We just felt that this week otrher user proove something that was worth giving them the top place. Teresa's puzzle ( the showgirl) was in it to the end, but it was a normal great Teresa puzzle, nothing against my dear friend Teresa but when you are on top of the ranking and a long time participant you have to impress the judges even more to get in the top 3. Sorry if we disapointed someone by not including Teresa puzzle in the top 3, it was nothing personnal against one of the nicest and most talented person in here, it was just a case of us not being mindblow by the puzzle.
#166: Kai-Uwe Zickerick (conzick) on Jul 26, 2010
Sylvain, I agree. but remember you often mention some puzzles besides the one winning.
This time T's Showgirl deserves it much.

if you make a competition (and I'm so glad you do it) you have to be honest.
but I can accept your opinion.
#167: Alicia Snyder (prinny) on Jul 26, 2010
Congrats LIZ!! And for my 2 cents.. I agree that Teresa's was a notable mention but I also agree that the judges made the right decision. Congrats to all :)

You are being too literal in assuming that the "Weekly Challenge" is in fact weekly. Actually, for various reasons, it is Bi-weekly, and sometimes Tri-weekly. However, instead of constantly changing the name, it is still called the Weekly Challenge.

The end date for the challenge is posted under each title on the Honors page. (#84 ends on the 29th of May)
