The only cat phrase that comes to mind at the moment is cat on a hot tin roof. (Cat on a hot tin fence just doesn't cut it) Maybe this is the cat that is away and the mice are playing somewhere? Or quite possibly, he's all happy because someone just let him out of a bag? Then again, maybe he just escaped from a room full of rocking chairs? :)

Is the cat in the phrase or is it simply 'On the fence'?
#3: John Macdonald (perlwolf) on Jul 7, 2017
All cats are black after dark.

Cool image, Janet. Your little fence walker seems to have paused as if to ask, "So... what's the answer?"
#5: Kristen Vognild (kristen) on Jul 7, 2017
A watched cat never prowls?
#6: Janet (jltho) on Jul 8, 2017
Close perlwolf - I say all cats are grey at night!

I have nothing to say. The cat's got my tongue.

It's been a couple of days, and I'm curious (which might be dangerous because curiosity killed the cat, har har har.) I want to know what the proverb is whether I guess it or not, but I also don't want to take the guessing opportunity away from everyone else. Can you give us a hint, Janet?
#10: Norma Dee (norm0908) on Jul 10, 2017
Was #6 the answer?

Curiosity got the better of me so I googled it and found an old proverb that says 'When all candles be out, all cats be grey'. When people say all cats are grey in the dark they mean that in the dark, physical appearance is unimportant.
