Hi,

If you're a first time puzzle maker...congratulations! I really enjoyed solving your puzzle. The only thing I would say is....you don't need that big of a venue to present your puzzle. Select 15 X 20 ... or 20 X 15 (I'm never quite sure of my lengths and breadths) lol

Well done!

Great fun little puzzle, thanks :)

It must have been resized before I got to it. Its 20x20 now.

Excellent puzzle!

Nicely resized, Tiffany!

You know, I didn't know there was a rule for that, so I can't guarantee that it is followed consistently on this site.

Alaris, I tried to figure out what you meant by "you run, then jump"...I don't understand how that helps. However, since I now know it is W x L, I will remember it by first "you Walk, then you Leap"! lolol However you accomplished it with "you run, then jump" you have helped me to be able to remember it. Thank you!

Dang, I was going to guess Princess Peach.

As far as the W x L discussion - coming from the printing industry I can tell you that our convention is always width first except in the case of an unprinted sheet in which case the dimension running with the grain of the paper is listed first (and usually either bolded or underlined). The width is determined by where the head of the sheet is in relation to the direction of the type.

So now that I've probably further confused the discussion I'll leave it at that the most common convention is width first - at least that's the way I'd prefer it for this site.

I didn't know that, but I think I mostly did that on this site. I suppose it makes sense. One always talks about 8 1/2 by 11 paper, never the vice versa.

Although if your doing something landscape you should

Very good Jen. A blank sheet of letter size is always 8.5 x 11 because of the grain (unless it was specially cut). But if your image is going to print with the head parallel to the long side then it would be 11 x 8.5 (as in something that's going to fold into a 4 page brochure - 5.5 x 8.5).

What about the 3 x 5 index card. Should I start calling it a 5 x 3?
#16: Byrdie (byrdie) on Jun 1, 2014
On a 3x5 index card the grain of the paper typically runs the 5" direction, therefore 3x5 is correct.
