Brian any tips on solving w/o guessing?
#2: ant (agrest272) on Dec 20, 2009 [HINT]
I think a black square on R15C27 would probably make this solvable.. although I'm not sure how far I looked ahead to solve the red.

Jota, try solving all the black as if there were no red then undo the dots where red could go. Use edge logic even on the left edge of the ball in C13. Right on ant, that was a screw up on my part. I didn't think it was worth a new version to fix it.

Amazingly difficult and extremely fun puzzle.

4 of the red 6 of column 16 can be placed with internal color edge logic, and from there simple edge logic on the top red lets you place all the red. More edge logic. 2-way logic on row 17 let me place dots on row 16, columns 18-22. The black on the left half was trickier. I don't know that I solved it logically.

I too think it requires looking more than a few steps ahead to solve this one.
#6: Gator (Gator) on Dec 21, 2009 [HINT]
You can use edge logic to make R18C17 a dot. I also got 4 of the 6 red place as Adam described. I used edge logic on row 17 to make R17C27 a dot. You can also use edge logic with the 4 clue on row 7 to make R12C18 and R12C19 dots.

The next thing I see is a form of the summing technique. If you imagine trying to place the 7 clue in column 13 as far to the bottom as you can, then you will have to fill in a total of 5 black cells in columns 12 and 14. Problem is, there are only a total of 4 black cells in the clues. So R18C13 is a dot.

Adam, I don't see how I can place the top red with edge logic.

This is all I have time to look at right now, but I'll get back to this one.

Actually, what I did once I got the red filled in was look at where the bottom black 2 in C24 could go. That helps determine the 7 in R18 completely.

very tough puzzle
i think i had to guess
#9: Bill Eisenmann (Bullet) on Jan 3, 2020
I didn't have to guess. I just cheated. :)

Which is a compliment to moot, because it means it was really hard but an intriguing enough image where I wanted to finish it.
#10: besmirched tea (Besmirched Tea) on Jan 3, 2020 [HINT]
I just did the 7's (EL) on the top, bottom, and right side first
Then solve all the rest of the black before starting the red.

EL on the red 6 in c16 and the rest LL's to the end
